How to Connect Your Computer to Your TV
You will have the
best of both worlds when you connect your computer to the television. It’s a
great way to streamline movies through your computer and you can even watch
those TV shows that you missed…without all the commercials. Instead of
squeezing friends or family around your computer monitor to view your digital
vacation pictures, you can quickly pop them up on the big screen. In addition,
connecting your computer to a television works well in meetings for Power Point
presentations or graphs.
Step 1
Look at the back of
your TV for the round video port. Count the pins needed for both your TV and
your computer. Purchase the proper pin count cable. S-Video cables are
inexpensive and readily available at stores that sell TVs or computers. (I got
mine at WalMart*.)
Step 2
Place the
connecting cable ends into the TV and computer before you turn on your
television. (Get the flashlight out so you can see the stinking way it goes in!)
Step 3
With your TV and
computer both ‘ON’, press the ‘Input’ select button on your televisions' remote
control. The ‘Input’ select button is similar to switching over to a DVD when
your watching a movie but you may need to keep switching if you have more than
one ‘Input’ option on your TV.
Step 4
Your computer may
require that you press a function key on your computer before it will display the
computer screen onto TV screen. Keyboards functions keys may look different. Look
for the dual screen symbol on the top row of keys on your keyboard.
Tip:
If the sound option does not work on your TV with this type of video connection,
you can purchase speakers and connect them to your computer to increase the
volume.
